A Sunrise Surprise Proposal at Lake Elizabeth in Fremont

It started with a call, "I'm planning a surprise." When Isaac reached out to me to book a photographer for his proposal to Noe, I could hear the sheer excitement and nervous anticipation in his voice. As a photographer, that’s exactly the energy I live to capture.

Isaac had been scrolling through my Instagram and felt a connection to some of my previous work at Lake Elizabeth in Fremont. After we talked through the vision, we decided that a sunrise session would be the most romantic choice.

There’s something about the way the light hits the water at dawn in Central Park; it’s soft, golden, and incredibly private. It was the perfect stage for the big moment.

As the sun began to peek over the horizon, Isaac took Noe by the hand. Witnessing the transition from a peaceful morning walk to a surprise proposal is always an honor. This is one of the first times I have myself witnessed a proposal and it was so beautiful! When he dropped to one knee, Noe’s reaction was absolutely priceless.

Her face radiated with joy! These are the moments that remind me why I picked up a camera in the first place.

Congratulations to Isaac and Noe! Thank you for letting me be a part of your beautiful story.

Planning Your Own Proposal? Here are some tips.

1. Prioritize Backdrop and Lighting

The setting is important, but the lighting is what makes a photograph feel magical. This is where your photographer becomes your best ally.

2. Forget the Camera and Be in the Moment

Once you’re on one knee, forget I’m there! The best photos aren't the ones where you're looking at the lens; they are the ones where you are looking at each other.

3. Coordinate Your Color Palette

You don't need to match perfectly, but your outfits should complement the environment. Your photographer can help you choose a color palette that pops against your chosen backdrop.

4. Set the Early Alarm

There’s a reason Isaac and Noe opted for a sunrise session. Mornings are often much more private than evenings, allowing you to have a popular spot all to yourself. Plus, the "golden hour" at dawn provides a soft, ethereal glow that is well worth the early wake-up call.

5. Let the Emotions Flow

Don’t try to keep it "perfect." If there are tears, let them fall. If there is loud laughter, let it out. These raw, unfiltered emotions are exactly what you’ll want to look back on 20 years from now.
